The Cozy Herbal Home Sauna

In the Cozy Herbal Home Sauna the famous Finnish home sauna and the instructed use of traditional folklore herbs is combined. You will get to go to our personal sauna and bathe using natural herb products. We will instruct you thoroughly throughout the experience. We will provide you with home-made herb soap and shampoo, a traditional birch whisk and herb-scented lotion. The most common herb used in a sauna is birch, which brings the scent of summer even to the heart of winter. It cleanses, revives and smoothes the skin and removes fluids and impurities from the body. Birch leaves also contain a lot of flavonoids with numerous health effects. Also other herbs besides the birch can be chosen, for example juniper or meadowsweet, which are proven be beneficial for one’s health.

To further enhance your sauna bathing experience, we serve you sauna drinks and meals we have prepared ourselves using pure wild herbs and natural produce locally sourced in Lapland. Sauna beverages include birch sap, herbal tea, berry juice and clean water. Sauna meals use local fish and reindeer meat, mushrooms and plants.

The Cozy Herbal Home Sauna includes guided sauna bathing with home-made products, towels and the sauna menu. The sauna takes 1–4 bathers and the sauna experience has a duration of around two hours. The sauna has a separate entrance to allow you to cool off outside or perhaps roll around in the snow before quickly returning to the warmth of the sauna.

Honey Home Sauna

The nutritious ingredients of honey combined with the heat of the sauna act as a moisturiser, cleanser, balances skin functioning and improves the skin’s own defence mechanisms. The heat of the sauna enhances these effects – resulting in a holistic, relaxing experience for both mind and body. The B&B Kotitie Honey Home Sauna combines a traditional Finnish home sauna with honey and home-made sauna bathing products, such as exfoliants and soaps.

Herbal Massage Treatment

Our massage treatments are based on our physiotherapy competence and decades of experience enhancing wellbeing. Our massage methods are classic massage methods. We enhance the intensity of the massage using home-made, powerful oils of Arctic wild herbs and thermal treatments. Massage can be full-body or partial body massages, focused for instance on the back or shoulders. The duration of the massage depends on what parts of the body are treated:

  • Full-body massage 90 minutes
  • Half-body massage 60 minutes
  • Partial body massage 30 minutes

Feel the Forest

The trees and shrubs of the northern regions contain plenty of ingredients that promote wellbeing and we use these in our treatments. Juniper symbolises tenacity, and indeed Finns as affectionately called “juniper folk”. The compounds contained in juniper prevent cells from ageing and soothe muscle pains. A juniper bath can also help you sleep soundly at night, thereby providing overall revitalisation.

Birch contains plenty of vitamins and flavonoids that provide the skin with nutrition and protection. Saponins contained in birch cleanse the skin in much the same way as soap. Birch also enhances the body’s liquid circulation.

The Feel the Forest experience includes first a dip in the juniper bath with your legs wrapped in a juniper poultice. Alternatively, enjoy a juniper foot spa with juniper poultice on your hands. Following this, you get to lie comfortably on the massage table and your body is treated with birch oil using a soothing massage enhanced by the warmth of hot natural stones or wheat bags. If you have some tense or tender parts, these will also be treated. The experience is perfectly rounded off with a tasty birch sap drink. The treatment takes two hours.

Wrap yourself in herbs – herbal treatment

Herb wraps are traditional treatments we use for treating our guests. You have a choice of the following herbs: birch, juniper, meadowsweet, yarrow and nettle. During this treatment, you will be wrapped in warm herbal wraps with the herb of your choice. Relax under soft blankets for a moment, before enjoying a massage using caring herbal oil. Treatment takes 1½ hours and is perfectly rounded off with delicious herbal tea or birch sap drink.

The compounds contained in juniper prevent cells from ageing and soothe muscle pains. Juniper can also help you sleep soundly at night, thereby providing overall revitalisation. The juniper is Finland’s most tenacious tree, as it survives the harshest of conditions, modest yet enduring. Finns are often called “juniper folk”.

The potency of meadowsweet lies in its flowers that have a sweet honey-like aroma. It contains strong antioxidants and salicylates and is renowned in folklore as a natural remedy for a wide variety of aches and pains, nature’s own aspirin. Meadowsweet also treat cuts, abrasions and flu-like symptoms. The herb is not recommended for young children, if you are pregnant, allergic to salicylates or suffer from asthma, as it constricts the bronchi.

Yarrow is a multitalented herb, as it contains a number of health-enhancing ingredients, such as flavonoids and bark extracts. Yarrow prevents inflammation and fungus growth, treats the skin, urinary tracts and intestines. It is particularly good for oily skin and for treating acne. The herb has traditionally been used to ease menopause and prostrate ailments. Yarrow has a strong and spicy aroma.

The nettle is the king of all wild herbs, as it takes care of the entire body, from head to toe. It contains plenty of iron, vitamins and minerals. The nettle strengthens the blood, treats the intestines, enhances the immune system and tends to a variety of skin problems. It supports the nervous system, stimulates blood circulation in the brain and improves memory.
